<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately recognize a character image without ensuring a large dictionary capacity. <P>SOLUTION: The character recognition device detects, upon input of form data with a character string written therein from the outside, a ruled line from a ruled line contact character string image in which a ruled line is contact (or overlapped) with a character (e.g., a printed figure, alphabet, kana or kanji) on the form, and temporarily removes the detected ruled line to estimate a character area. After completion of the estimation of character area, the recognition device extracts a ruled line contact character image from the ruled line contact character string image (original image) inputted from the outside based on the estimated character area. After extraction of the ruled line contact character image, the device adds a pseudo ruled line to a reference character image preliminarily retained therein to generate a character image with reference ruled line. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
