A method is disclosed for generating a protein database to enable location based interchange of characteristics between proteins of a super family comprising heterogeneous data sets. The method comprises the collection steps for collecting 3D structure data, sequences, link to literature, and characteristics of protein. First de 3D structures are superposed to obtain cores of structurally equivalent residues. The cores are forced on each other. Subsequently, an iterative sequence alignment is performed to assign proteins to a sub family. The residues having the same equivalent position in the core will obtain the same unique location identification. This unique location identification is very suitable to interchange of homogeneous and heterogeneous characteristics between proteins of a super family and to build homology models of a protein. |
