The device has a switching unit (2), a rotating lift unit (3) for rotating and lifting a cargo (1). A force element (4) is for applying force supporting the motion of the rotating-lift unit. The line of action of the weight of the total-center of gravity of the switching unit and the rotating lift unit, which stays in connection with the cargo, has a contact area forming an intersection. The contact area is clamped by contact points of the switching unit. The intersection is placed with in the contact area before, during and after a pivoting and a traveling motion. An independent claim is also included for a method for moving cargo, particularly switchgear cabinets, which involves applying a strength for the movement of the rotating lift unit by a force element.
