The method involves providing a sensor arrangement (3) with a set of distance measuring sensors (S1-S4), which contactlessly determines distance measured values that are a measure for a distance of a position of the object from the corresponding distance measuring sensor. Coordinates of the position of the object in an orthogonal co-ordinate system are successively determined in separate calculation sections from distance values of the distance measuring sensors. The distance values are derived from the distance measured values. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a position of an object, in particular a body part in a motor vehicle.
