The protection device has capaciflectors arranged as a sensor at a stop edge (4) and a line shaped closing edge (3) of a door or flap. The closing edge of the door or flap moves on the stop edge. The door or flap is movable by a drive that has an electronic controller. Each capaciflector is connected with the electronic controller. The controller has a memory for storing a signal response when closing the door or flap, and a comparator for comparing an actually measured signal with a stored signal when closing the door or flap. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a clamping protection device for a door or a flap.
