The system has an in-vehicle unit (10a) mounted in a vehicle for controlling an engine based on communication with a portable device (1). The in-vehicle unit receives an ID code from the portable device, collates a received ID code with a stored ID code in response to one start command and a stop command. A collation ECU in the in-vehicle unit produces a result of ID-code collation. The in-vehicle unit permits starting and stopping of the engine corresponding to the commands when both ID codes match. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle engine control method for controlling an engine in a vehicle. |
