PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the dimensions of an internal combustion engine inclusive of auxiliaries by reasonably arranging the auxiliaries on the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An auxiliary arranging structure arranges an actuator 50 for driving the control shaft of a variable valve operating mechanism of the internal combustion engine in the space surrounded by a cylinder head 11 having a plurality of intake ports, an intake manifold 65 having a plurality of branch pipes 66 connected to the intake ports of the cylinder head 11 and a throttle body 69 arranged on an end side in the array direction of the plurality of branch pipes 66 of the intake manifold 65. The useless space defined among the cylinder head 11, the intake manifold 65 and the throttle body 69 is effectively utilized to arrange the actuator 50, and the overall length and overall height of the internal combustion engine inclusive of the actuator 50 can be reduced.
