An engine coolant flows between an engine outlet (S) and an engine inlet (E) in a loop comprising an engine cooling radiator (24), a thermostat (26) which controls the flow of the coolant in the radiator as a function of the temperature, and a high-temperature heat exchanger (El). The exchanger includes a hot circuit (44) through which there flows a refrigerant fluid of an air-conditioning circuit, in particular a CO<SUB>2</SUB> air-conditioning circuit, and a cold circuit (38) through which there flows the engine coolant. Means (46) are provided to regulate the supply of the cold circuit of the exchanger, being intended to take off the coolant from the engine outlet when the engine is cold and to take off the coolant from the radiator outlet when the engine is hot.
