PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high output and low cost electrochemical capacitor wherein the over charge accompanying the charge and discharge cycle is remarkably suppressed. SOLUTION: This electrochemical capacitor comprises a positive electrode containing porous carbon and graphite carbon, a negative electrode containing porous carbon, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. Further, the ratio of the graphite carbon to the sum total of the porous carbon and the porous carbon contained in the positive electrode is preferably≥5 mass% and≤30 mass%.
