PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit capable of suppressing mis-discrimination of a dot area and suppressing deterioration in the image quality. SOLUTION: A first isolated point counter 544 counts the number of isolated points within the range of longitudinal 9 pixels * lateral 9 pixels around an object pixel. A comparator 551 outputs a signal S13 in a case where a number P of isolated points counted by the first isolated point counter 544 is settled within a predetermined range. On the basis of the signal S13, a second isolated point counter 546 counts the number of isolated points within the range of longitudinal 5 pixels * lateral 5 pixels around the object pixel. A comparator 553 outputs a signal S16 indicative of a dot area in a case where the number of isolated points counted by the second isolated point counter 546 is greater than a predetermined threshold value REF 12.
