PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a sheet material 12 to be easily and rapidly step-bent into a member having the step faces having at least two stable parallel relationship at arbitrary many height. SOLUTION: This step bending method includes a step where respective both surfaces of a portion 12a and the other portion 12b of the sheet material 12 are clamped with respective clamping members 4, 14 closely without clearance and a step where both clamping members 4, 14 are relatively moved in parallel to the direction of the step-bending while the clamped state is held from the start to the completion of the step-bending work.
