Class 38(4) Low voltage drop across the starting motor of a internal-combustion engineindicative of inability of the motor to start the engine-causes a relay to remain in an unoperated state in which its contacts complete an energizing circuit for a second relay, which automatically brings into operation an auxiliary starting aid, such as means for supplying heated air or an explosive mixture to the engine intake. The second relay may be slugged, or associated with a thermal switch, to delay action of the second relay. The engine starting contactor and stopping solenoid may be controlled over a circuit including a switch responsive to, say, temperature or humidity whereby the engine is started or stopped in accordance with predetermined variations of these variables from a datum.
