A method, a recording medium and an apparatus for automatically constructing an acronym dictionary while considering an acronym generation type are provided to reduce acronym dictionary construction time and to enhance precision and recall rate the acronym dictionary by using a probability model on the basis of acronym features. A method for automatically constructing an acronym dictionary comprises the following several steps. An apparatus collects original words from web documents existing over the internet(210). The apparatus generates acronym candidates matched with one among a noun skip type, a syllable combination type and a mixed type with respect to each of the collected original words(220). The apparatus calculates probability that the generated acronym candidate can be a real acronym by applying a frequency of the candidate existing in the web documents to a set classification model(230). The apparatus registers the acronym candidateswhose probability is over a threshold, at the acronym dictionary(240).
