Wall component and wall kit for growing plants

The invention relates to a wall component 1 for growing plants. The component 1 has a rectangular receptacle 2 having an upper and lower face 2A, 2B and a front face 3 with at least on aperture 3A in the front face. A block of mineral fibre 4 is provided in the receptacle having layers of fibres laid substantially parallel to the upper and lower faces 2A, 2B. The front face 3 of the component may be formed from plastic sheet. The mineral block 4 may be pre-seeded or pre-planted prior to use. In use one or more seeds or plants may grow with roots in the block of mineral fibre 4 and foliage extending out through the or each aperture 3A. Also disclosed is a wall kit wherein at least two of the afore described components are arranged in rows and/or columns. The wall kit may have a backing frame which may be formed of sheet material wherein the sheet material may include vertical cladding rails to secure it to a wall. The wall kit may further comprise irrigation means.
