An apparatus and a method for detecting a vehicle position are provided to improve position measuring precision by reducing a delay error between a GPS(Global Positioning System) satellite and a GPS terminal and compensating a multi-path error due to reflection of a high-rise building. An apparatus for detecting a vehicle position comprises a reader unit(120), an error information detection unit(130), a pseudo range compensating unit(114), and a control unit(140). The reader unit receives position information of an electronic tag(300) installed on a roadway. The error information detection unit detects error information by using a GPS signal including a satellite position and a pseudo range and the position information. The pseudo range compensating unit compensates the pseudo range by deducting the error information from the pseudo range. The control unit detects the vehicle position from the compensated pseudo range.
