The device has an electronic funds transfer at point of sale (EFTPOS) terminal connected to a telecommunications network. The terminal has a central processing unit, and a program stored in the central processing unit for sending a pre-defined alarm signal such as short message service (SMS) message, via the network. The terminal comprises an alarm setting unit for setting off an alarm, and the program sends the pre-defined signal when the alarm setting unit is activated. The terminal is compatible with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) standard.
