APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLING INTER-CELL INTERFERENCE IN BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for controlling inter-cell interference in a broadband wireless access system are provided to maximize system capacity by canceling multi-cell interference. A backbone interface unit(300) exchanges interference control information with an adjacent base station. A controller(302) selects a base station which maximizes a transmission capacity by using the exchanged interference control information, and the controller(302) controls to lower a modulation level of a terminal within a cell when the adjacent base station is selected. The interference control information includes at least one of noise power, signal power of the terminal within the cell which is interfered with by a different cell, and signal power of an interference terminal generates interference to the terminal within the cell.
