A rear door assembly for a motor vehicle 10 is disclosed in which a rear door 11, 12 is attached to a rear end of the motor vehicle 10 to allow it to be rotated through 90 degrees from a closed position to a first open position and then be slid from the first open position to a second open position in which it lies adjacent a longitudinal panel 14 of the motor vehicle 10.
