PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus system capable of preventing failure that the quantity of subject light for a video gets insufficient by branching subject light for autofocus, because the subject light in a different wavelength region from a visible light region used for a video is used as the subject light used for autofocus in the autofocus of a contrast system. SOLUTION: The light in an infrared region out of the subject light made incident on a photographic lens is branched off from the subject light for the video in the visible light region as the subject light for autofocus by an infrared reflection mirror M1. The subject light for autofocus is formed into an image on the image pickup surface of an imaging device for autofocus 16 by an AF master lens ML. The lens ML is moved in the direction of an optical axis O' so that an image formed position by the subject light for autofocus may be aligned with the image pickup surface of the imaging device 16.
