A composition comprising a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid is provided to show moisturizing, wrinkle improving, wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects and be permeated into skin more easily than a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. A composition for moisturizing, improving wrinkles, healing wound and preventing inflammation comprises a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid having a weight average molecular weight of 500-10,000 Da and represented by the formula(1) or a salt thereof as an effective ingredient. In the formula(1), n is an integer from 1 to 25; R is H, an alkali metallic salt of Li, Na, and K, an alkali earth metallic salt of Mg and Ca, ammonia, or a salt of an organic amine such as ethylene diamine, cyclohexylamine, aniline, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, ethylamine, propylamine, arylamine, diethylamine, butylamine, isobutylamine, triethylamine, pentylamine, t-butylamine, and an isopropylamine. The composition is in the form of a skin external application composition such as cream, gel, patch, spray, ointment, plaster, lotion, liniment, paste type or cataplasma, or a cosmetic composition such as skin lotion, skin softener, skin toner, astringent, lotion, milk lotion, moisture lotion, nutritive lotion, massage cream, nutritive cream, moisture cream, hand cream, foundation, essence, nutritive essence, pack, soap, cleansing foam, cleansing lotion, cleaning cream, body lotion or body cleanser.
