METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AN EXTENDED RANGE ETHERNET LINE CODE

A method and a system for an extended range ethernet line code are provided to minimize redundancy of line codes to extend ranges of operations. A local physical layer(PHY) converts ethernet MII(Media Independent Interface) data from 4-bit packet streams into 3-bit packet streams. The 3-bit packet streams of the MII data are mapped to one or more ternary bits streams for communication to a remote physical layer through one or more twisted-pair wires. The one or more ternary bits streams include the first and second ternary bits streams. Communication is made to the remote physical layer by using PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation)-3. The 3-bit packet streams are scrambled before being mapped. The 3-bit packet streams are aligned during mapping.
