A vehicle navigation system and a method thereof are provided to enable a driver to easily recognize a road linked to a destination by overlapping route guidance information with road image information corresponding to real roads. A vehicle navigation system includes a receiver(101), a controller(104), and a display unit(105). The receiver receives real road image information corresponding to the current position of a vehicle through a wireless communication network. The controller overlaps the received real road image information with route guidance information, which is generated based on the current position of the vehicle and map data. The display unit displays the overlapped information.
