It is an object of this invention to provide highly reliable image read operation by detecting the positions of white and black streaks that can occur in flow scanning and prevent the occurrence of such streaks. To achieve this object, in copy operation, for example, the continuity and position of image data read by a CCD to detect the data as abnormal pixels, thereby outputting an image without any streak.
