A high contrast multilayer reflective liquid crystal display element in which scattering is reduced under focal conic state of cholesteric liquid crystal. Two or more liquid crystal panels (10B, 10G, 10R) having cholesteric liquid crystal layers (1B, 1G, 1R) of different selective reflection wavelengths are laid in layers to constitute the reflective liquid crystal element where a liquid crystal panel having a liquid crystal layer injected with liquid crystal of a long selective reflection wavelength exhibits a small orientation regulating power of the liquid crystal layer applied to the panel. ® KIPO & WIPO 2008
