PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crucible for pretreating a raw material to produce the high quality pretreated article of the raw material which is used when single crystals are produced by a crucible descending method (Bridgman method), a single crystal pulling method (Czochralski method) or the like. SOLUTION: The crucible with an inner level difference for pretreating the raw material having a first side part inner wall 3a being practically vertical to a bottom inner wall 1a, having a second side part inner wall 2a being practically vertical to a bottom inner wall 1a and whose lower end position is higher than the upper end position of the first side part inner wall 3a, having a first inclined inner wall 3b extending from the upper end of the first side part inner wall 3a to the lower end of the second side part inner wall 2a and having a smaller horizontal cross sectional area at the upper end position of the first side part inner wall 3a than that at the lower end position of the second side part inner wall 2a is provided.
