PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an observation environment which is comfortable for an observer, by realizing a device that excels in operability for controlling a direction-specific image display element, such as selection of image and voice, as well as, in optimizing the display setting of the direction-specific image to a plurality of observers, relating to multi-screen display, stereoscopic display, and multi-image display which is a combination of them. SOLUTION: The image display system comprises direction-specific image display elements 100 that display an image corresponding to a plurality of directions, a remote controller 200 for remotely controlling the elements, a receiving means for receiving the signals from the remote controller 200, an imaging element for acquiring the image data of an observer who operates the remote controller 200, and a detecting means which detects a first data representing azimuth of the remote controller 200 relative to the receiving means, from the signal transmitted by the remote controller 200. The first data is used to detect a second data that represents the azimuth of a head part or the view point of an observer, relative to the direction-specific image display element 100.
