PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize the kinds of signals supplied from a plurality of external devices to external input terminals through simple operation. SOLUTION: The disclosed video display apparatus includes a plurality of external input terminals to which a plurality of external devices can be connected. The video display apparatus comprises detection means (connection detector 3c, signal detection circuits 41, 42, resistors R11, R12, R21, R22) for detecting terminal information corresponding to the plurality of external input terminals, presence/absence of plug connection and presence/absence of signal input, and display control means (video signal processing unit 7, video output unit 8, control unit 9, character generating unit 10) for displaying detection results of the detection means on the video output means.
