PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material suitable for a heat radiating member having an excellent heat conduction property, and also provide a method for manufacturing the composite material for manufacturing the composite material with favorable productivity. SOLUTION: The composite material is formed of an element of one or more kinds selected from Cu, Si, and Ge as an additive and a remainder using a silver alloy formed of Ag and an impurity as a metal matrix. A ceramic particle and a crystal deposited substance including the additive are dispersed in the metal matrix. This composite material includes the additive element of 20 mass% or higher and 70 mass% or lower and can be manufactured by a casting process by pouring a fused mixture including a silver alloy containing the remainder formed of Ag and the impurity, and the ceramic particle into a casting die.
