PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lever unit enhancing design freedom capable of widely setting operation specification of the shift lever such as operation stroke in the electronic type shift lever unit. SOLUTION: A position detection means 3 of the shift lever unit 1 has a sensor base plate 35 arranged with a detection sensor 31; and a driven plate 32 arranged with a reaction area 351 detectable by the detection sensor 31 and displaced while maintaining the state opposed to the sensor base plate 35. On the driven plate 32, an engagement part 323 engaged with a connection part extending from the shift lever at high rigidity is provided. The engagement plate 323 is constituted such that the driven plate 32 is not displaced by allowing displacement of the connection part according to operation of the shift lever in a preset predetermined operation range and the driven plate 32 is followed/displaced to the displacement of the connection part according to operation of the shift lever exceeding the predetermined operation range.
