PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a discharge surface by supplying a head liquid to the surface (discharge surface) of the inkjet head provided with an ejection port and performing wiping operation, wherein a necessary and sufficient amount of the head liquid is supplied irrespective of environmental temperature. SOLUTION: Two absorbers 51 and 52 having different capillary forces are provided in a housing section 12 for the head liquid, and one of the absorbers is positioned at a liquid outlet 12A depending on temperature and a wiper is brought into contact therewith in advance of wiping to transfer the head liquid. That is, in a low-temperature environment, an absorber 51 with a small capillary force (prone to produce oozing accompanying contact) is used. On the other hand, in a high-temperature environment, an absorber 52 with a large capillary force (less prone to produce oozing accompanying contact) is used. Thus, it is possible to stably transfer a necessary and sufficient amount of the head liquid to the wiper (or supply to the discharge surface) irrespective of temperature.
