Functionalized poly(phenylene-ether) (I) comprising macromolecular chains containing phenolic terminals of formula (II), is new. R11-6C linear hydrocarbon, preferably methylene, ethylene or propylene; and R2, R2aaryl (optionally substituted) or 1-6C alkyl (optionally containing heteroatoms), preferably methyl or ethyl. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparation of (I); and (2) a poly(phenylene-ether)-polyester copolymer comprising blocks containing recurring polymeric units of formula -(OC-R3-CO-O-R4-O)- and (III) and/or (IV).
