<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep positional relation between data signals and clock signals fixed at all times by a simple configuration in an optical transmitter for performing optical phase modulation by the data signals, applying optical intensity modulation in synchronism with the clock signals and transmitting optical signals. <P>SOLUTION: Without individually supplying the clock signals CK from the outside, the clock components are extracted from the data signals D themselves and the clock signals reproduced on the basis of the extracted clock components are defined as the clock signals CK.
