PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of slider floating instability being caused due to the sticking of contaminants to a magnetic head slider floating surface accompanying low floating of a magnetic head slider. SOLUTION: Ions for exhibiting a surface energy reduction effect are implanted to a full floating surface of a magnetic head slider 1, excluding front and center rail surfaces 4 and 7. Thus, sticking of contaminants, of the floating surface of the magnetic head slider, to the front, the side and the center step bearing surfaces 5, 6 and 8, and a negative pressure groove 9 where sticking of contaminant easily occur is prevented, and slider floating instability is suppressed. Although ion implantation to the full surface of the magnetic head slider will increase the surface roughness of the front and center rail surfaces 4 and 7, by implanting ions to the surfaces, excluding the front and center rail surfaces 4 and 7, the sticking of contaminants to the floating surface will be prevented effectively, without having to increase the surface roughness; and slider floating instability is suppressed.
