A Kimchi refrigerator and a control method thereof are provided to store Kimchi in desired taste for a long time with reduced sour taste by allowing active response to environmental changes such as temperature change within the refrigerator and door opening, and to perform cold shock operation to the Kimchi according to its amount by modifying the intervals of performing cold shock operation. A Kimchi refrigerator comprises a cooler, a control unit, a sensing unit, and a weight sensor. The cooler refrigerates the refrigerator accommodating Kimchi. The controller controls the cooler to perform a cold shock operation which cools the Kimchi in a cold shock temperature which is lower than a storage temperature for predetermined intervals during a storage mode, and to change the intervals according to the amount of Kimchi. The sensing unit senses the amount of Kimchi stored in the refrigerator. The weight sensor senses the weight of Kimchi stored in the refrigerator.
