<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content back-up method and a device. <P>SOLUTION: Back-up data of a target content stored in a network system is generated. The selection of undesirable device for the back-up use in the network should be avoided. The network system has at least three devices, each device having one memory. One or more devices stored with contents capable of being used as an auxiliary content are searched. Among the searched devices, a device which satisfies a predetermined device requirement is selected. Exclusive OR operation is taken between the bits of the target content and the auxiliary content, and parity data is generated as a result of the exclusive OR operation.
