<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out data communication for controlling a line head, at a high speed and stably while an increase of communication lines are suppressed in an image forming apparatus equipped with a plurality of image formation stations that include the line head with a plurality of light emitting elements arranged in an array shape, and in its image formation method. <P>SOLUTION: A 32-bit data word is divided to four sections, and video data of 8 bits per color is assigned to each section. The thus-obtained 32-bit data are transmitted as serial signals from a main controller to a head controller.
