PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyesterimide having a high glass transition temperature, a low coefficient of linear thermal expansion, low water absorption, a high elastic modulus, satisfactory toughness and adhesion, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This polyesterimide that has a repeating unit represented by general formula (2) (wherein A is a divalent aromatic group or alicyclic group) gives the high glass transition temperature (Tg), the low coefficient of linear thermal expansion, the low water absorption, the high elastic modulus, the sufficient toughness and the satisfactory adhesion to a metal foil.
