PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To receive E-mail addressed to its own with appropriate timing even when communication at a communication channel is regulated. SOLUTION: The portable communication terminal 1 is connected to branch switches 4 and 5 via base stations 2 and 3, and transmits and receives E-mail to and from a mail server 7 via the branch switches and a portable radio network 6 which has at least two communication channels, a first communication channel (a voice communication channel) and a second communication channel (a data communication channel). In doing this, when one of the communication channels is regulated, the mail server 7 is inquired by using an unregulated communication channel, every certain lape of time according to a rate of regulation, whether or not E-mail addressed to its own has arrived and, when there is new E-mail, the E-mail is received.
