PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new catalyst which can be synthesized and isolated with ease, has excellent polymerization activities, and forms an olefin polymer having excellent characteristics. SOLUTION: The cationic complex is represented by general formula (I) (wherein, Ln is the group 3 transition metal atom in the periodic table; X is a halogen atom; R1and R2are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a 1-12C hydrocarbon group in which at least one carbon atom may be substituted with a nitrogen, phosphorus, oxygen, sulfur or silicon atom; Z is a solvent molecule; and p is an integer of 1 or 2).
