PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickener in which a flocculate is hardly stuck to the inner peripheral wall of an agitation tank in a lumped state even when the thickener is operated over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The thickener 1 has an agitation blade 22 to be rotated around a rotary shaft 21 inside an agitation tank 10. The upper end of the rotary shaft 21 is connected to an arm 27. A chain 25 is fit to the arm 27 to be swung. The chain 25 is swung in the agitation tank 10 and is brought into contact with the inner peripheral wall 10a of the agitation tank 10 accompanying the rotation of the rotary shaft 21.
