PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardness meter which facilitates an operation of moving a pressure member without any risk of interference between the pressure member and an object to be measured at a retraction position. SOLUTION: The hardness meter has the function of pressing a probe 3 while bringing the pressure member 1 to be in a press contact with the object to be measured being resilient, and the function of measuring an indentation depth formed by above pressing operation of the probe 3. The pressure member 1 has a first posture and a second posture switchable mutually, and in the first posture, a pressure section 10 is disposed around a route on which the head of the probe 3 moves toward the object to be measured, and in the second posture, the pressure section 10 is disposed at the rear of the head of the probe 3 being on the retraction position and spaced from the route on which the head of the probe 3 moves toward the object to be measured.
