PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooking apparatus allowing accurate determination on whether it contains water reaching a level necessary for cooking or not. SOLUTION: The cooking apparatus is provided with a heating room for storing food, a steam generator feeding steam to the heating room, a freely removable water tank storing water to be fed to the steam generator, a water level detection part detecting a water level inside the water tank, an operation part for selecting a cooking menu and instructing a heating start, and a control part which determines whether water is at a level necessary for cooking the cooking menu selected via the operation part or not based on the water level inside the water tank detected by the water level detection part after a lapse of the predetermined time after starting heating and gives an alarm when the water is not at the necessary level. After the cooking menu is selected and the cooking start is instructed, the water level inside the water tank is detected after a lapse of the predetermined time, and it is determined whether the water tank contains water at the level necessary for the cooking menu or not.
