PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for smoothing wet paper at the final step of a press part of a paper making machine, which prevents the formation of wrinkles caused by a paper-swelling phenomenon and further prevents hanging of the wet paper from a paper-carrying belt after the wet paper passes a transfer roll. SOLUTION: This method for smoothing the wet paper comprises a step for making a suction transfer roll 21 to adsorb the wet paper passing a dehydration final press 4 of a press process together with a felt 6a on one side, a step for forming a first nipping portion N<SB>1</SB>of the roll 21 and the first smoothing roll 12b on the rear stream side, and transferring the wet paper 1 adsorbed on the roll 21 to the first smoothing roll 12b, and a step for passing the wet paper 1 through the second nipping portion N<SB>2</SB>formed of the first smoothing roll and the second smoothing roll 12a to smooth the wet paper.
