PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a surface mounting square electricity accumulation cell of high sealing performance by eliminating a mounting area loss of a surface mounting coin type electricity accumulation cell for use in a portable apparatus or the like. SOLUTION: By a method for manufacturing a square element where a pair of polarizing electrodes 2a and 2b oppose each other through a separator 3, containing the element in a square case 4 and an upper lid 5 while being impregnated with an electrolyte, bonding and sealing the case 4 and the upper lid 5 by thermally caulking a gasket 6 arranged between, manufacturing an electricity accumulation cell 1 by bonding a pair of terminals 7a and 7b to the case 4 and the upper lid 5 and coating the electricity accumulation cell 1 squarely with a sealing resin 8, and then arranging it on the mounting surface by bending the terminals 7a and 7b along the circumferential surface of the sealing resin 8, an element of a large area is arranged with a small mounting area and a small size and a large capacity are attained. Furthermore, high sealing performance is attained by a method for coating the electricity accumulation cell 1 with the sealing resin 8 after the case 4 and the upper lid 5 are bonded and sealed by thermally caulking the gasket 6 between them.
