PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilization rate and productivity of a centerless grinder by automating dressing work of a rotary dresser for a superabrasive grinding wheel and by substantially reducing work hours needed for the dressing. SOLUTION: When performing dressing work by traversing the rotary dresser in full width in the axial direction of the grinding wheel of the superabrasive grinding wheel while feeding the rotary dresser into the superabrasive grinding wheel by predetermined amounts, a sample of a load current value of a dresser drive motor is taken during a rough dressing. When the load current value exceeds a lower limit of an electric current in the full width of the superabrasive grinding wheel in the axial direction of the grinding wheel, the rough dressing is terminated and switched to a fine dressing automatically.
