<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, wherein space saving is attained and the installation height can be made lower as well. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a scanner unit reading a document, a control unit 3 having a control substrate 42 and a support base 2. The support base 2 is provided with a pair of support frame parts 30c which are projectingly arranged in attitudes horizontal and parallel to each other. Recessed shape portions 46d in which the respective supporting frame parts 30c are stored in a fitting state when the control unit 3 is extended and placed between the pair of supporting frame parts 30c, are provided on the lower surface of both sides of the case housing 40 of the control unit 3, respectively.
