PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To edit a chapter with easier operation. SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing apparatus displays a running bar 121 as a part of a chapter editing screen 101 when the chapter is edited, wherein the running bar 121, to which a chapter mark 123 is arranged which shows the boundary point of the chapters, and corresponds to the length overall of the contents. The chapter can be edited by moving, deleting, and inserting the chapter mark 123 on the running bar 121.
