MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM, AND MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM MANUFACTURING APPARATUS AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of performing bidirectional recording and reproduction while attaining high density recording, and in addition, avoiding spacing loss caused during recording and reproduction. SOLUTION: A first magnetic layer 3 and a second magnetic layer 4 which respectively have a plurality of columns 5 and whose easily magnetized axes are inclined in directions opposite to each other (directions of arrows A1 and A2) are formed in this order on a non-magnetic supporting body 2. Both magnetic layers 3 and 4 have early period growth parts 3a and 4a constituted of one part of each base end part side of each column 5 and latter period growth parts 3b and 4b constituted of the other part of each tip end part side of each column 5. The early period growth parts 3a and 4a are formed by growth of each column 5 in the thickness direction of the non-magnetic supporting body 2 and latter period growth parts 3b and 4b are formed by growth of each column 5 to form an arc shape in a side view while being inclined along the longitudinal direction of the non-magnetic supporting body 2.
