PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting state monitoring apparatus for observing the change of the state of a tube in real time, and performing warning indication when the tube changes from a normal state to an abnormal state. SOLUTION: The state of a tube 1 is decided in real time normally even when the illumination brightness is controlled, based on the non-linear characteristics of the tube 1, so that the function of warning indication is provided during the abnormal state. The data measured in real time is compared with the measured values of typical characteristics of the tube used in the lighting system and the stored data about the relation between an input voltage and an input current at start of use, thereby instantaneously deciding whether the tube 11 is in normal state or the abnormal state and displaying the result of the decision.
