<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for improving precision of a decision on whether an image is a color image. <P>SOLUTION: A multifunction apparatus decides a plurality of colors as colors of a plurality of blocks obtained by sectioning a target image (step S15). Then blocks showing the plurality of decided colors are counted (step S17) and it is decided based upon count results whether the target image is a color image (steps S18 to S21). Consequently, even when a block mainly has an achromatic-color region and partially has a chromatic region, a chromatic color can positively be adopted as the color that the block shows. Consequently, it is not decided by mistake that a color image is a monochromatic image, and the decision precision can greatly be improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
